A 180-million year old Euagassiceras ammonite was used to make this soap mould!
The beautiful Euagassiceras ammonite was named by the eccentric Martin Simpson (1800 - 1892) a pioneering geologist and curator of Whitby Museum. He was known for walking miles along the coast looking for fossils and measuring strata with his 'two feet rule'. He was easily recognisable wearing the seemingly unsuitable clothing of a top hat and frock coat, while carrying a carpetbag and green whalebone-ribbed umbrella!
