Today marks the start of Fairtrade Fortnight 27th February – 12th March 2023
At The Dispensary we are a big supporter of Fairtrade products and we stock these wherever possible.
One of the themes of this year’s fairtrade fortnight is the climate crisis. Our friends at The Fairtrade Foundation explain what fairtrade is and how fairtrade can help the climate crisis.
What Fairtrade Does
Fairtrade works with farming co-operatives, businesses and governments to make trade fair.
Together with Fairtrade farmers and workers we have a vision: a world in which trade is based on fairness so that producers earn secure and sustainable livelihoods.
Fairtrade has a network of dedicated supporters who help to raise awareness of the issues of unfair trade and fundraise to support us in our work. Find out more.
We believe that trade justice is necessary for climate justice.
Too many farmers barely earn enough to make ends meet as it is, even without factoring in the effects of climate change.
This is why we are advocating for farmers to earn a living income. This means they have the power to effectively tackle the crises affecting their communities and can rely on sustainable livelihoods.

Fairtrade Standards
Fairtrade also supports farmers to combat climate change through technical advice from our expert Producer Networks and our environmentally friendly Fairtrade Standards.
Our Fairtrade Standards require small producers to take steps to:
- Adapt to climate change
- Reduce greenhouse gases and increase carbon sequestration
- Avoid deforestation and protect forests
- Tackle soil erosion and increase soil fertility
- Reduce water wastage.
